One Day

I look forward to the day when

I can relax.

When I no longer stare at the door

And wait for you to come home.

When the sounds of my pleas

No longer hang heavy

In the air.

When I stop staring at the

Empty spaces in the closet

Wondering what I can do

To fill them.

One day

When my heart is light

And filled with air

I’ll sit and remember you

With fondness

Instead of fury

Instead of gloom.

I must be out of my mind

To stress and strain

And dream of the day

I’ll will it to come

Although I know it’s impossible

To rush fate.

I’ll make tomorrow my dream

And yesterday too

Because then I’ll wake up
