In the Heat

Fairy lights

Spark to life

Catch them in a mason jar.

Fallen stars

Blinding

Bright

Winking through the darkened branches.

Summer winds

Cicada hums

And bullfrogs boasting of their strength.

Tart and sweet

So wild and brief.

Counting days till summer’s end.

  1. I like this, but have a suggestion on one line, that stopped the flow of the poem for me.

“And bullfrog’s boasting of their strength.”

Since ‘their’ implies multiple bullfrogs, and boasting seems to be a verb in this sentence, I think the apostrophe should be removed.

And bullfrogs boasting of their strength. –just makes more sense to me.

    Best,
    A.
